Sri Lanka in a Nutshell – 9 Days
Day 1: Colombo - Kandy
Arrive Colombo airport where you will be met and transferred to Kandy. En route visit Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage. This orphanage is the home of about 60 elephants, some of them baby elephants found abandoned or orphaned in the wild. The best time to visit is during feeding time, when you can see the baby elephants being bottle-fed. You could also accompany the elephants to a river close-by and see them having their daily bath. Check in at your hotel in Kandy. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight.
Day 2: Kandy - City Tour
After breakfast, enjoy a city tour. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings, and is a World Heritage Site. Drive around Kandy Lake built by the last Sinhala king, Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1798. Visit Kandy town and the bazaar, the Arts & Crafts Centre, a Gem Museum and a Lapidary. Also visit the Peradeniya Botanical Garden first built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala king and then expanded by the British. Its 147 acres provide an amazing variety of trees, plants and flowers.

In the evening visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic, the museum at the Temple and then enjoy some traditional Sri Lankan dances. Overnight.
Day 3: Kandy – Nuwara Eliya
After breakfast, transfer to Nuwara Eliya, where the best tea in the world is produced. Visit a tea plantation and a tea factory en route, learn about the process of manufacturing tea, see how tea is graded and taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea. Also enjoy a sightseeing tour of Nuwara Eliya. Overnight.
Day 4: Nuwara Eliya – Yala
After breakfast, proceed to Yala. Its northern boundaries border on the Laughable Elephant Sanctuary with the added bonus of a scenic ocean frontage. The terrain is varied - flat plains alternating with rocky outcrops. The vegetation ranges from open parkland to dense jungle. Water holes, small lakes, lagoons and streams provide water for the animals and birds. The specialty here is the large numbers of elephants. Arrive Yala for overnight.
Day 5: Yala
Breakfast. Take a game drive either in the early morning or afternoon or a night safari. Overnight.
Day 6: Yala – Bentota or Beruwala
After breakfast leave for Bentota or Beruwala. Arrive and check in at your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight.
Day 7: Bentota or Beruwala
Breakfast at your hotel. Full day at leisure on the beach. (The vehicle is not at your disposal here). With a tropical lagoon and a major river, Bentota is a major tourist resort area. It offers water sports possibilities nowhere else to be found. Apart from swimming, body-surfing or diving in the sea, you can jet-ski, windsurf, parasail or enjoy a romantic river safari on the river and lagoon. Beruwela, near Bentota has one of the longest beaches, ideal for swimming. Overnight.
Day 8: Bentota or Beruwala – Colombo - City Tour
After breakfast transfer to Colombo. Enjoy a city tour, driving through the commercial area of the "Fort" so named, because both the Portuguese and Dutch had a Fort here. Drive past "Pettah" – a noisy oriental bazaar with a hotchpotch of humanity, bargains, mosques and temples. Drive past a Hindu temple, Jumi-ul Alfar Jumma Mosque, Wolvendaal Dutch Church, Hultsdorf Law Courts and the residential area of Cinnamon Gardens, Independence Square and Bandaranayke Memorial International Conference Hall. Also visit a departmental store, House of Fashion offering "Designer" brands of clothing at reasonable prices, Lakmedura (Antiques) and Majestic City mall. Overnight.
Day 9: Colombo
After breakfast, transfer to the airport in time to connect with your flight back home.
