Almaty City Tour

Overview: See the central part of Almaty and learn about the history of the southern capital of Kazakhstan. See its major attractions: Central State Museum, Palace of the President, Republic Square and Monument of Independence, Abai Opera and Ballet Theatre, Astana Square, Almaty Railway Station, Central Mosque, Green Bazaar, Panfilov Park, Abai Square and Palace of Republic.

After seeing the sport, cultural and business areas of the city the tour route will take you to the Medeo Gorge for a brief stop on the huge Medeo dam, which protects the city from destructive mudflows. The Best of Almaty

Duration: 3 hours
Overview: The tour starts in one of the oldest Almaty parks - Panfilov Park, where you will see one of the highest wooden buildings in the world - Zenkov Cathedral. Also visit the Memorial of Glory and Eternal Flame, dedicated to the memory of the fighters who died for the independence of the country.

Continue to Medeo Gorge, for a stop on the huge Medeo dam, which protects the city from destructive mudflows. On top of the dam, 1733 meters above sea level, enjoy an amazing panorama of the largest high mountain skating rink in the world – Medeo, surrounded by wonderful mountains of Trans-Ili Alatau.

Overview: See the beautiful mountain surroundings of Almaty city. The first stop is the Medeo Gorge, where in the wonderful mountains of Trans-Ili Alatau, the largest high mountain skating rink in the world is located as well as the huge dam, protecting the city from destructive mudflows. Next is Chimbulak ski resort, 2230 meters above sea level. It is very popular for its mild climate, many sunny days, snow through the winter and the remarkable scenery of mountain ranges. The Issyk Lake

Duration: 7 hours
Overview: The route to one of the most beautiful gorges of Trans-Ili Alatau, Issyk Gorge lies along the Kuldja tract, where hundreds of years ago the trade caravans travelled. Learn about this region and see the burial mounds of Saka period, where the famous "Golden Man" was found, which has become the state symbol of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Visit the original farm complex - Ostrich Farm, where you will see the African ostriches and have an opportunity to taste ostrich meat and egg dishes.

Drive to 1756 meters above sea level, to the beautiful mountain lake Issyk, formed about 10,000 years ago due to a colossal landslide which also resulted in the formation of a natural dam 300 meters high. The Lake is located in the valley with the same name. Enjoy the majestic beauty of its turquoise waters and the Issyk Gorge; learn about the natural disaster of 1963. Enjoy a picnic and free time for recreation.

The Turgen Gorge

Duration: 7 hours
Overview: The route to Turgen Gorge lies along the Kuldja tract, used by trade caravans to travel east to India and China in ancient times. Turgen Gorge is located in the Ile-Alatau Natural Park, 90 km from Almaty and is famous for its waterfalls. The most picturesque one is 30-meter Bear waterfall, surrounded by overhanging cliffs and green spruces.

Next, see the burial mounds of the Saka period and visit the archaeological open-air museum, to see a sculpture of the famous "Golden Man", which has become the state symbol of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Finally, visit the Trout farm, where this noble fish is bred. Go fishing and the trout, caught by you, will be cooked for your lunch.

The Big Almaty Lake

Duration: 6 hours
Overview: Drive to the Big Almaty gorge, 2,510 m above sea level to see the Big Almaty lake, one of the most picturesque lakes in Trans-Ili Alatau. The Big Almaty Lake was formed as a result of movement of an ancient glacier. As the lake is a source of potable water for Almaty city, access to tourists is limited. Drive up to 3300 meters above sea level, where astronomical and space research stations have been set up. Enjoy the panorama. Visit the Falcon Farm, where you will enjoy a spectacular show with specially trained hawks. Hunting with them is one of the most unique features of the Kazakh way of life.

The Charyn Caznyon

Duration: 9 hours
Overview: Charyn Canyon is one of the unique natural monuments of Kazakhstan. The canyon is about 12 million years old with its vertical cliffs, which remind you of ancient castles, created by wind, sun and rain. It will take about 3 hours to reach the canyon. Admire the grand panorama whilst enjoying a picnic, walk through the maze of the Castle Valley with its inaccessible overhanging walls. A unique experience indeed!
