Siem Reap - Phnom Penh

Validity: Till 30th September 2023

Day 1: Siem Reap

Upon arrival in Siem Reap, you will be warmly greeted by our guide and driver and transferred to the hotel for check in. Overnight.

Day 2: Siem Reap – Full Day Angkor Tour (B)

After breakfast, start your tour with a visit to the West Gate of Angkor Thom – undiscovered by many tourists. At the ancient capital of Angkor Thom (12th century), see the South Gate, Bayon Temple – unique for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling faces of Avalokiteshvara, Baphuon temple lying just to the north of Bayon - a pyramidal representation of mythical Mont Meru.

See the old palace and Phimeanakas temple in a huge complex and view the Elephant terrace platform. Continue to Preah Palilay, older than Angkor Thom, deep in the forest.

Next is Ta Prohm, of “Tomb Raider” fame, abandoned to the elements. It was ‘discovered’ by French explorer Henri Mouhout in 1860. The tentacle-like tree roots here are slowly strangling the surviving stones. Visit Ta Prohm early to avoid the crowds.

Continue to the famous temple: Angkor Wat, a World Heritage Site since 1992, known for its beauty and splendor. Angkor Wat features the longest continuous bas-relief in the world, which runs along the outer gallery walls and narrates stories from Hindu mythology. See the Angkor Night Market.

Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 3: Siem Reap – Phnom Penh by Overland (B)

Breakfast. Transfer to Tonle Sap Lake for a boat trip to visit Kompong Phluk and learn about life on the lake, passing floating houses and impressive flooded forests. Return to the mainland, and drive to Phnom Penh (6 hours on the NR 6A), with a rest stop at Skun dist. Arrival Phnom Penh and check into hotel. Overnight.

Day 4: Phnom Penh City Tour – Genocide (B)

Breakfast. This morning, visit the Royal Palace compound built in 1866 by the Predecessors of King Norodom. It is the most conspicuous and impressive feature. Nearby is the Silver Pagoda (The Emerald Buddha temple), which displays plenty of Buddha statues that were decorated with diamond, emerald, gold and silver.

Then visit Independence Monument which was constructed in 1954 after Cambodians took their country back from the French. You will learn about the dark side of Cambodia’s more recent turbulent and harrowing history. Initially, visit the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum (also known as S21), ironically a former school, in a quiet Phnom Penh suburb. This was the infamous Khmer Rouge prison / torture centre. Overnight.

Day 5: Depart Phnom Penh (B)

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport to depart to your next destination.
