Athens - 5 Days
Day 1 : Athens - Dinner at Plaka
Arrive Athens airport and transfer to your hotel. Day at leisure. In the evening, enjoy an optional Athens by night tour and try your hand at a dinner at a typical Greek tavern in the Plaka (optional), the city's buzzing night spot. Overnight.
Day 2 : Athens - City Tour with Acropolis
Breakfast. This morning, enjoy the city tour with a visit to the famous Acropolis. Expert guides take you to see the center of the city including Constitution Square (Syntagma), the Parliament, the Memorial to the Unknown Soldier and the National Library. See the Panathenaic Stadium (where the first Olympic Games of the modern era were held in 1896), the Temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian's Arch and very many sites.
And finally the Acropolis, visit the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens: the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and finally, the Parthenon.
After a morning tour full of images continue in a local restaurant under the slopes of Acropolis for lunch. After lunch depart for a wonderful drive along the scenic coastal road which affords a splendid view of the Saronic Gulf, passing through some of Athens most beautiful suburbs (Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, Varkiza) to CAPE SOUNION. Cape Sounion is only 45 miles (70 kilometers) from Athens, making it the perfect lazy afternoon tour destination. The Cape's Temple of Poseidon is perched on a rocky hilltop overlooking the sea. The view across the Aegean is magnificent with one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the world, extending all the way to Kea and the Peloponnese on a clear day. The Temple of Poseidon was built in 44 B.C., and many of its original Doric columns are still standing. One of the columns has a graffiti left by none other than Lord Byron in the early 1800s. The precipice is a sheer 197 foot drop to the sea. Overnight.
Day 3 : Athens - Full Day Excursion to Delphi
Breakfast. Enjoy a full day excursion to Delphi. Drive through the fertile plain of Boeotia, passing the towns of Thebes, Levadia and Arachova, famous for its colorful rugs and carpets and enjoy a short stop here. Arrive Delphi, the center of the ancient world, whose prestige extended far beyond the boundaries of the Hellenic world.
On the slopes of Mount Parnassus, in a landscape of unparalleled beauty and majesty, lie the ruins of the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios. Visit the Treasury of the Athenians, the Temple of Apollo, and the Museum containing masterpieces of Ancient Greek sculpture: the Bronze Charioteer and the famous athlete, Aghias. Stop for Lunch with a traditional family owned restaurant. Wander around the picturesque village of Arachova. Return to Athens late in evening and overnight.
Day 4: Athens – Full Day Saronic Cruise
Breakfast. Cruise to three of the most important islands in the Saronic Gulf. First the island of Aegina, the biggest island of Saronikos, inhabited since the second millennium BC with two major archeological sites, the Church of Saint Nektarios, the last Saint recognized by the Greek Orthodox Church. See a marvelous fish market, a unique floating fruit market and pick up the famous pistachio nuts. Optional tour: Temple of Aphaia at Poros, the smallest of the three islands, full of pine and lemon trees. Lunch is served on board, usually when the ship is sailing between Poros and Hydra, one of the favorite islands of the international jet-set with its unique architecture and narrow streets with small shops selling jewelry and articles of folk art. Return to Athens for overnight.
Day 5 : Athens
Breakfast. Transfer to airport.
