See the Presidential Palace and Uncle Ho's wooden stilt house and the One Pillar Pagoda dating back to the 11th century which looks like a huge lotus flower from afar. The next stop is the Temple of Literature, the site of Vietnam's oldest university, dedicated to one of the world's most famous scholars, Confucius. Inside the temple grounds, huge steles rest on the backs of even larger stone turtles (in Vietnam's culture, the turtle represents longevity). The stele recorded the names of the successful candidates who later became mandarins in the Emperor's court.

After lunch, visit Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son temple. Then visit the lanes of the Old Quarter, named after the guilds they used to represent such as Hang Bac (Silver Street), Hang Gai (Silk Street), Hang Tre (Bamboo Street).

Overview: Depart for Ha Long Bay via the Hong Ngoc Humanity Centre, developed to provide support to local communities including the disabled. On arrival in Ha Long board a private boat for a cruise of the bay, famous for its scenic aspect of karsts jutting out of the sea. Ha Long Bay means "Descending Dragon" and according to legend when the Vietnamese were fighting off foreign invaders, the gods sent a family of dragons to assist them. During the battle the dragons spat out jewels that would later become the islands scattered around the bay.
The cruise visits a fishing village to learn more about the culture and customs of the local inhabitants. Visit one of the limestone caves in the area followed by a stop to swim in the emerald waters (weather permitting). Enjoy a seafood lunch on the boat.
