Fortress Hohenwerfen

Duration: 5 hours
Overview: Pass the beautiful Salzach river valley before arriving at Werfen, where, up on the mountain you can see the Fortress Hohenwerfen, (11th Century). This castle was shown in the movie "The Sound of Music" and where the film "Where Eagles Dare" with Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood was filmed. You will travel up the elevator, and back to the "Middle Ages."

You can also participate in a flying birds of prey show, walk around in the fortress or visit the shops of the knights. Enjoy the breathtaking view of the Austrian Alps in the romantic castle-tavern. In the afternoon return to Salzburg.

Eagle's Nest

Duration: 4 hours 30 minutes
Overview: Drive from Salzburg over the Durrnberg mountain pass, with it's Miner's Chapel, crossing the German border to reach Obersalzberg. From here a specially constructed bus drives you up the steep mountain road to a parking area. Walk a short distance through a tunnel in the mountain to the elaborate elevator which takes you up the Eagle's Nest, formerly a meeting place for Hitler and his diplomatic guests. A spectacular view of the entire Salzach Valley and the Bavarian Alps awaits you. Make a short stop at the picturesque market town of Berchtesgaden before returning to Salzburg.

The Most Unique Sound of Music Tour

Overview: Relive the true story of the Von Trapp family which was filmed as the 'Sound of Music' in the Salzburg area. Ice Caves Tour

Duration: 5 hours
Overview: This tour takes you along the scenic Salzach Valley to Werfen, where the fortress of Hohenwerfen has protected the pass since the 11th century. Enjoy the impressive view before arriving at the parking lot of the caves. From there we continue on foot and via cable car to the entrance of the caves where your thrilling and chilling adventure begins: A walking tour through the wonderful world of unique ice formations. The average temperature in the summer is 0 degrees Celsius/32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Mozart City Tour and Mozart Residence

Overview: The tour begins by the Palace of Mirabell built in 1606 for the Archbishop Wolf Dietrich and is today home to the office of the local Mayor and city offices. Drive past the Mozarteum (University of Music), the Marionette Theatre to Markart Square with the Landestheatre (The Regional Theatre), The Trinity Church, and Mozart's residence.

Following the Salzach (Salt) river along part of the old fortifications, pass the Law Courts on the way to the Hellbrunn Palace where you will have a short photo stop. On the way back pass the Palace of Frohnburg and the Nonnberg Abbey, situated beneath the impressive Hohensalzburg Fortress. Once in the old city pass by the Festival Halls, Old University, Horse Pond, Getreidegasse and the Blasius Church. The tour finishes in Mozart Square where you will see the famous Mozart statue, Cathedral, Old Residence of the Archbishops and the Fortress Hohensalzburg.

Mozart Dinner Concert

Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes
Overview: Dine at Europe's oldest restaurant, Stiftskeller St. Peter, while listening to the music of Mozart. Enjoy a delicious three course candlelight dinner, prepared according to traditional recipes from Mozart's era, while the most popular compositions of Mozart are being performed by local musicians in historical costumes.

Salt Mines & Celtic Village

Overview: Enjoy an exciting tour to one of the oldest salt mines in the world. On the way from Salzburg to Hallein pass the pilgrimage church of Durrnberg and the authentically reconstructed Celtic village on the Mountain Durrnberg which gives you an insight into the life of the Celts about 2500 years ago. You are accompanied through the tunnel by miners. Interesting information about the extraction of the so-called 'white gold' by the Archbishop Wolf Dietrich (1587-1612) can be viewed on a screen.
