Overview: The Hindu temple Prambanan 17 km east of Yogyakarta, derives its name from the village where it is located. It is the biggest and most beautiful Hindu temple in Indonesia and is believed to have been built by King Balitung Maha Sambu in the middle of the 9th century. Its parapets are domed with a bas-relief depicting the famous Ramayana story. The complex of Prambanan lies among green fields and villages. It has 8 shrines, of which the 3 main ones are dedicated to Shiva, Visnu and Brahma.

Overview: Drive for one hour to Magelang and visit the biggest Buddha temple in the world, Borobudur. Borobudur Temple was built by King Samaratungga, one of the kings of the old Mataram Kingdom on a small hill in the Kedu Basin, a rich, fertile valley surrounded by spectacular volcanoes. The temple is also near the meeting place of two rivers, the Elo and the Progo, believed to symbolize the Gangga and Yamuna, the two rivers feeding the Indus valley in India. Also visit Pawon temple in the middle of a local village and Mendut temple with its magnificent statue of the Buddha Sakyamuni. Return to your hotel.
