Palace on Wheels - 8 Days

Day 1 (Wednesday): Depart New Delhi

Report by 4:30 pm at Safdarjung railway station for a traditional welcome including garlanding, tikka and turban and check-in formalities for the ‘Week in Wonderland’ train tour. Time free for photo-shoot with traditionally attired Palace on Wheels staff. Your personal attendant will escort you to your saloon cabin and for brief you on its facilities. Proceed to the Bar Lounge for a complimentary welcome drink. The train departs at 6:30 pm. Dinner on board.

Day 2 (Thursday): Jaipur, The Pink City

Breakfast on-board, followed by a royal Elephant Welcome at Jaipur railway station. Then visit St. Albert Museum, Pink City Palace & UNESCO World Heritage Site of Jantar Mantar (Sun Observatory).

After a brief photo stop at Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), visit the UNESCO site of Hill Fort Palace of Amber in the afternoon. Enjoy an elephant ride up the steep ramparts of the fort. Enjoy lunch at the 1135 AD Boutique Restaurant, located in Fort premises.

Later, discover the beautiful 16th century well preserved Fort Palace, with its huge courtyards, built in a rare fusion of combined Rajput and Mughal architecture. At around 5pm, visit the vibrant local market for shopping. Return to the Palace on Wheels at around 6 pm & depart for your next destination. Enjoy dinner on-board.

Day 3 (Friday early morning): Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve

After an early morning at 6:30 am in a forest lodge, enjoy a jungle safari in 15-seater canters in Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve. One of the most popular reserves in India with a rich history, the reserve is home to tigers, panthers, sloth bears, pythons, marsh crocodiles, deer and numerous birds. Truly a delight for wildlife lovers!

Return to Sawai Madhopur railway station and depart by 10 am. Lunch on board.

Day 3 (Friday afternoon): Chittorgarh Hill Fort

At 4 pm, the Palace on Wheels train arrives at Chittorgarh railway station. Begin your excursion to UNESCO site of the 11th century Hill Fort of Chittorgarh, spread over a huge plateau. It is the largest fort in India.

In the evening, enjoy a Sound & Light show in the fort complex. Return to the train for dinner. The train departs post midnight.

Day 4 (Saturday): Udaipur, the City of Lakes

Train arrives by 8 am. After breakfast on board, visit the 17th century City Palace complex with eleven constituent mahals, balconies, towers and cupolas. Also visit the amazing Crystal Gallery housing the personal collection of H.H. of Udaipur.

Enjoy a boat ride around Lake Pichola, in the middle of which the world-famous Lake Palace Hotel is situated. Lunch at the majestic Fatehprakash Palace Hotel.

Time free for shopping followed by a visit to the Royal Gardens at Saheliyon Ki Bari. return to train by 3 pm and depart. Dinner on board.

Day 5 (Sunday): Jaisalmer, Oasis in the Desert

After breakfast on board, proceed by 9:30 am to UNESCO site of Jaisalmer Fort. Enjoy a leisurely walk through the 15th century living fort complex, standing at a height of 100 m over Jaisalmer town.

Then visit Patwon ki Haveli, one of the largest and most elaborate mansion houses. Nearby is a group of 15th century Jain Temples, which are beautifully carved & have a library hosting some of the oldest manuscripts of India.

Enjoy lunch at a 5-star hotel and return to the train for a brief rest and tea. At 4:30 pm go on an excursion to Sam Sand Dunes in the Thar Desert and take a camel ride at sunset. Later, enjoy a cultural program with dinner at a 5-star hotel. Return to the train by 10 pm and depart.

Day 6 (Monday): Jodhpur, Heart of Marwar

Arrive Jodhpur at 8 am and after breakfast on board, visit the 16th century Mehrangarh Fort, atop a rocky hill, 125 m. above Jodhpur town. Visit the breath-taking Palatial Apartments (Mahal), overlooking wide courtyards and the museum with its impressive collection of royal garments and medieval weapons. Nearby is late 19th century Jaswant Thada, a cluster of royal cenotaphs in white marble. Next, visit the museum at Umaid Bhawan Palace, displaying personal artifacts of H.H. Maharaja of Jodhpur. Lunch is served at Hanwant Mahal Boutique Restaurant. Return to the train to depart by 3:30 pm. Dinner on-board.

Day 7 (Tuesday Early Morning): Bhatarpur Bird Sanctuary

At 6:30 am, visit the UNESCO site of Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary and enjoy a cycle rickshaw ride to view species of both local & migratory birds. Return to the train for breakfast and depart by 8:45 am.

Day 7 (Tuesday noon): Agra, City of the Taj Mahal

Disembark at a railway station on the outskirts of Agra at 10:30 am and enjoy a sightseeing tour to the UNESCO site of Agra Fort, seat of power of the mighty Mughal Empire.

Lunch at ITC Mughal Hotel and then visit the majestic Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the modern world, a flawless architectural marvel built in white marble. Afterwards, enjoy some time for shopping and return to the train for dinner. Depart.

Day 8 (Wednesday): Return to New Delhi

The Palace on Wheels train returns to Delhi’s Safdarjung railway station by 5:30 am. Check-out by 7:15 am after an early breakfast.
