Jeena & Company was established as an enterprising new venture in the Indian logistics industry.
Jeena and Company breaks India free from the monopoly foreign travel agents had on the industry. As the first Indian-owned travel company, Jeena Tours and Travels connected travelers to Indian and world destinations.
In 1951, under the dynamic leadership of Nari and Adi Katgara, Jeena handled the opulent Stella Polaris cruise in collaboration with the House of New York.
In 1954, the TSMV Battory was chartered for pilgrims and tourists to Goa for the Exposition of the Body of St. Francis Xavier.
Between 1959 and 1960, Jeena enabled Indian tourists to explore the world on cruise ships that called on Indian ports consistently, like P & O, Lloyd Triestino, Lauro Lines, Anchor Lines, and American President Lines.
In 1961, our dedication to Indian travelers and the Government of India’s intent to encourage the inbound tourism sector materialized as Travel Corporation (India), an amalgamation of three organizations devoted to the same cause.
This decade marked our pioneering efforts to introduce domestic and international tours to the Indian market. This incredible feat was integral to the goal of liberalizing charter regulations for incoming flights in India. TCI also pioneered the development of tourist air charters, playing a key role in liberalizing charter regulations for incoming flights to India.
For the first time ever, Indian travelers could now enjoy cruise vacations on ships like MV Akbar and Noorjehan chartered by TCI.
A unique accomplishment was the chartering of a Greek cruise ship in 1974 for 6 months, carrying over 2,200 overseas tourists on cruises to Goa, Cochin and the Lakshadweep islands. During this time, TCI was the preferred agent for many international cruise lines, coach tour companies and rail networks, offering the Indian traveler a range of options..
With 25 domestic offices and international offices in cities like London, New York, Tokyo, Sydney, Frankfurt, Barcelona, Seoul, and Beijing, TCI became a force to be reckoned with, winning countless National Tourism Awards. We represented more than 1000 foreign travel agents’ interests in India, validating us as India’s leading travel and tour organization.
We offered the widest range of international travel options at the time. We also handled numerous international prestigious events and conferences organized by American Travel Writers, Rockefeller, Boeing, the World Conference on Diabetes (IABSE 2005), and NASSCOM among others.
2006 marked the year when Thomas Cook acquired TCI. A few years later, Trail Blazer Tours India Private Ltd (TBi) was established, continuing the rich legacy of the Katgara Group.
