Detailed Itinerary

DAY 1: WELCOME TO SWEDEN

After clearing customs and collecting your luggage, make your way into the city centre and check in to your accommodation. You could call a taxi or board the express train from the airport to Stockholm Central Station. Or, for a more direct and comfortable ride, we will be happy to organise a private airport transfer for you. If your flight landed early in the day, you can spend the afternoon exploring Sweden’s beautiful capital. First, stroll down Drottninggatan street to discover charming shops and feel the vibe of the city. Then, go for a walk in nearby Östermalm, where you will find interesting boutiques, cafés, and restaurants offering a perfect introduction to Scandinavian culture. You might want to stop in a café to experience Swedish “fika”, a traditional tea or coffee break. Spend the night in Stockholm.

DAY 2: STOCKHOLM

Today, you’ll enjoy plenty of time exploring the heart of scenic Stockholm. This walkable city is perfect for discovering on foot.

Start by exploring the historic and mesmerising Old Town (Gamla Stan), where you will find the Royal Palace, the nation’s parliament, ancient churches, beautiful cobblestone streets, and medieval houses. After some time in Gamla Stan, take a short ferry ride to the nearby island Djurgården. This is a cultural oasis offering something for everyone. Here you will find the Abba Museum, celebrating Sweden’s most famous band, the Nordic Museum, the Gröna Lund amusement park, and the Skansen open-air museum. This island is the ideal spot to spend a leisurely afternoon. Spend the night in Stockholm.

DAY 3: STOCKHOLM - COPENHAGEN

After breakfast, you’ll say goodbye to Stockholm and head to Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital city. Make your way to Stockholm Central Station to catch your train. After settling into your hotel, you could take a walk along the enchanting old harbour area, Nyhavn.

This famous district is lined with colourful houses and lively restaurants beside rows of docked boats. From here, you can easily explore the highlights of this iconic city. Walk the narrow side streets, visit some charming shops, and try a delicious and traditional open-faced sandwich, smørrebrød. Spend the night in Copenhagen.

Note: It’s possible to travel by plane instead of by train between Stockholm and Copenhagen.

DAY 4: COPENHAGEN

You have the whole day to explore the enchanting streets of Copenhagen. The best way to see the city is on foot, so head back to the cobblestoned streets that characterise the city centre.

There are many regal landmarks in Denmark’s historic capital, including Amalienborg Palace and the stately Christiansborg Palace. Later, be sure to walk past the famous Little Mermaid statue by the waterfront. For delightful views of the city, join an optional cruise from the harbour and admire the beauty of the city from the water. Later, stroll along Ströget street for some shopping and grab something delicious to eat at Torvehallerne food hall. Spend the night in Copenhagen.

DAY 5: HEAD TO OSLO

Spend the morning seeing some more of Copenhagen. If you haven’t already, you might want to check out the observatory of The Round Tower, the most famous church in Copenhagen, Church of Our Saviour, the impeccable King’s Garden, and the grand Rosenborg Castle.

Later, it’s time to board the Go Nordic Cruise line to Oslo. The ship will sail you gently up the Kattegat Sund on its way to Norway’s capital city. Enjoy dinner in one of the on-board restaurants, check out the entertainment on board, or just relax and watch the sunset from the deck. Spend the night on the Go Nordic Cruise line.

DAY 6: OSLO

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast on board as the ship docks in vibrant Oslo. You then have the whole day to explore Norway’s capital at your leisure. Depending on your interests, there are plenty of activities and attractions to enjoy in this dynamic city. First, take a stroll along the Karl Johans gate main street. Then make your way along the Aker Brygge Marina and past the beautiful Oslo Opera House.

You could choose to visit the beautiful Vigeland Sculpture Park, tour the Royal Palace, explore the Akershus fortress, or view Oslo City Hall. See the sights at your own pace or join an optional bus tour. Other attractions include the Fram Museum, displaying a world-famous polar exploration ship, and the collection of works by the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch at the Munch Museum. Spend the night in Oslo.

DAY 7: JOURNEY OVER THE MOUNTAINS

After breakfast, head to Oslo Central Station and board the Dovrebanen train. This route passes over the Dovre mountain plateau, through historic towns and nature preservations. Arriving in Dombås, change trains and join the Raumabanen Railway.

This is often called the most spectacular train line in Norway, with endless sights to enjoy. Look out for Kylling Bridge, with the thundering Vermafossen falls below. The train takes you to Åndalsnes, where you will disembark. From here, board a bus to journey past more dramatic landscapes on your way to the vibrant port town of Ålesund. Spend the night in Ålesund.

DAY 8: GEIRANGER FJORD CRUISE

Today, you get to explore the majestic Geirangerfjord by cruise. This 3-hour boat tour includes an immersive audio guide and will take you on a journey through 3 fjords and their spectacular landscapes.

Geiranger fjord is UNESCO-protected and features peaceful waters framed by towering mountains. Look out for magnificent waterfalls, including the Seven Sisters and Bridal Veil. The boat tour includes a stop in Geiranger village, an idyllic location with lush scenery and well-maintained walking trails. In the afternoon, the cruise will return you to Ålesund. Spend another night in Ålesund.

DAY 9: ALESUND

Enjoy a relaxing day in Ålesund, a fishing and ferry town with a rich history. With charming architecture featuring Art Nouveau turrets, spires, and ornamentation, the town is like something out of a fairy tale. Highlights include the Ålesund Museum, the Atlantic Sea Park, and the viewpoint on the side of Mount Aksla. To reach this viewpoint, look for steps to an area called Kniven (“the Knife”). After an evening spent relaxing, you’ll join either a Hurtigruten or Havila Voyages overnight cruise towards Bergen. Spend the night aboard the coastal cruise. If you would like to relax in your own room for the evening before your cruise departs, you can request a late check-out at your hotel. This will be at an additional cost.

DAY 10: SAIL TO BERGEN

During the night, your cruise will call at the towns of Torvik, Maløy, and Florø. Finally, you’ll come into view of your destination – Bergen. Disembark to explore the “Capital of the Fjords”. Though an international city, Bergen has the charms of a small town. Head to Bryggen, a city quarter with preserved old houses. This area is also home to a lively fish and flower market, packed with local vendors.

DAY 11: BERGEN

You have a full day to explore beautiful Bergen. First, you won’t want to miss a ride on the Fløibanen Funicular to the peak of Mount Fløyen.

Enjoy panoramic views, then board a cable car up even higher to Mount Ulriken. From here, discover winding hiking trails leading you across the surrounding mountains. Down at the city level, some of the most popular museums include Troldhaugen, dedicated to composer Edvard Grieg, and KODE, Scandinavia’s largest museum of art and design. Another option is to head to the harbour to board optional day cruises of the glittering fjords. Spend another night in Bergen.

DAY 12: NORWAY IN A NUTSHELL

It’s time for one of the most scenic parts of your adventure. Say goodbye to Bergen and catch the Bergensbanen train, travelling past mountains to the town of Voss. At Voss, change to Gudvangen harbour. Here, you will board a 2-hour fjord cruise to Flåm, sailing through Nærøyfjord, the narrowest fjord in all of Europe.

This UNESCO World Heritage site is part of Sognefjord, Norway’s longest and deepest fjord. You’ll be awe-struck by views of mighty peaks, tumbling waterfalls, and charming farmhouses.

Finally, the boat sails up Aurlandsfjord to Flåm, a charming village.

Spend the night in Flåm.

DAY 13: THE FLAM RAILWAY EXPERIENCE

Enjoy a morning exploring Flåm, taking in its natural beauty and enjoying its cultural offerings.

Visit the Flåm Railway Museum to learn about this world-famous train route. Or make your way up to the Stegastein viewing platform above Aurlandsfjord. This afternoon, experience the Flåm Railway. The train climbs 900 metres (2,952 feet) in just 20 kilometres (12 miles), with photo stops along the way.

At Myrdal Station, switch to the Bergensbanen train. Along this high mountainous route, you’ll pass through the villages of Geilo and Gol before arriving in Oslo.

Spend the night in Oslo.

DAY 14: DEPARTURE

It’s time to say goodbye to Norway!

If your flight is in the afternoon, you could spend a few last hours shopping for souvenirs, visiting one of Oslo’s museums, or simply strolling through the charming city centre.

When it’s time to head to the airport, take the Airport Express Train or call a taxi. Alternatively, we would be happy to arrange a private airport transfer for you.

If you’d like to spend more time in Norway’s dynamic capital, you can easily add additional nights in Oslo during the booking process.
